Triathlon Training: Running

HFBQuest Album ArtOn October 26, 2013 I will be participating in my first ever triathlon. The Martindale Tri is the oldest triathlon in Texas. It is a 7 mile run/16.5 mile bike/5.5 mile kayak. The kayaking vs. an open water swim was what attracted me to this particular race.

Today I began the run portion of my training using the Couch to 5K podcast.

I didn’t know you were training for a triathlon… good luck! :) I just wish I could I could run a mile straight again without stopping. Before I had my daughter, I was running 4. Oh, how I miss my pre-pregancy body!!

I was worried about the 7 mile running portion since I hadn’t run in so long. However, in the last three weeks I’ve started using the 5K101 podcast to train and this week graduated myself up to the 10K101 podcast training. I’m feeling more confident I can do it. I do not promise to be fast, but I do promise to finish. Thanks for the encouragement.

BTW, your baby is still a baby. Mine are 23 and 18. I think you’ve plenty of time to get yourself back in the running groove.;-)

Oooh, I will have to check out the 5K podcast! I’m always up for a good one. As for being fast, who cares. Finishing is what it’s about!

And… true, she’s still a baby. I just feel like if we *think* about having another, I’m not in a healthy enough spot. (I don’t want them to be too far apart in age.) She’ll be 3 this November… so if I can lose 15 or 20lbs, then we can think about it. I just need to kick it in gear!

Here is the link in iTunes for the 5K101 podcast. Todd Lange does a really good job of being encouraging during each week. His music choices also help me keep my run tempo to the beat. Let me know what you think.
